NEW MUSIC: PLYA – Thinking Of You

Not PLAY spelt funnily – PLYA, as in “ply-ah”, Spansh for beach. They’re a (sort of) new group from London that consists of Julia Sykes (vocals), Kris Taylor (guitar) and William Brown (drums). The band is debuting their brilliant first single today, ‘Thinking Of You’.

What you’re hearing – and what PLYA’s following singles will most likely sound like – is dreamy electronic pop music that is influenced by music scenes from London and LA. Pretty close: think of the sound of artists such as CHVRCHES or Wake Owl.

To get a better idea of what to expect, try finding tracks such as ‘Glimmer’, ‘Younger Minds’ or ‘Best Thing’ from the trio’s previous project SYKES. They have been getting support from big sites such as Indie Shuffle, The 405 and Et Musique Pour Tous before.

It’s not quite clear why the band is starting over with the same formation under a different name. Still, if their new work is going to be at least as good as their previous alias, expect to hear a lot of good new music coming up.
