Katie Costello, The City And Horses, The Weeknd, Collin McLoughlin, Popeska, The Doors, Niconé

Dum Dee Dum
Here’s a nice tune. L.A. singer Katie Costello and N.Y. band The City And Horses came together and made this nice track called ‘Dum Dee Dum’. It’s a free download, Their label Paper Garden Records is giving it away. According to a small biography, The City And Horses like to be an undiscovered indie band as they “take comfort in being a hidden musical gem“. And so their new album is titled ‘We Will Never Be Discovered’. In order to keep it that way, maybe they should stop writing catchy-as-fuck pop songs about love then. Just a thought.

High For This / Progress
Collin McLoughlin is a singer/songwriter from New York who’s just released a new EP called ‘Stark Perspective’. First heard about him when he released a cover on Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Save The World’. At the time I didn’t post it, because I wassn’t sure about his vocals. It sounded like they were patched up using some sort of autotune. Interestingly enough there’s a quote up on his Facebook page by The Weeknd: “Sings too well, it must be autotuned. Strings too crack, must be a sample. People are crazy”. I’m guessing it’s a reaction on Mcloughlin’s cover of ‘High For This’ by The Weeknd.

Now you can hear there’s been some mixing done, there are some subtle delay and reverb effects. But I’m not sure about what has been done to the vocals. Anyway, for those of you who like to compare: Here’s ‘Progress’, a track from McLoughlin’s new Stark Perspective EP. I’m pretty sure this is his natural voice. And I must admit, it’s a really good track!

Knives To A Gunfight
I realise this post is not really satisfying for electronic beatlovers at this point. Read on. This next track is titled ‘Knives To A Gunfight’ and it features fat basslines, heavy snares and tons of violent samples. That’s more like it. The track was produced by Popeska, a talented dude from Atlanta, GA. The track title on Soundcloud says “More Bass Coming Soon“, wonder what that means..

Alabama Song (Niconé Edit)
This little track is cut from Jackplug’s new House Mixtape. The track is an edit on The Doors’ ‘Alabama Song’ by Niconé. The mixtape itself includes names such a SBTRKT, Özgür Can, Audio Bullys, Mauro Picotto and Woodkid. The tracklist will be up soon, you can listen to the entire mix here.
