Frankie Knuckles, Billie Ray Martin, Kygo, M83, Galantis, Instant Party!, Paris Carney, Jan $wift

Paris
Essential tune by Frankie Knuckles. Sadly, Chicago’s god of house passed away this week and our support goes out to all family and friends. House legends aren’t easily forgotten, and here’s a strong reminder shared by German vocalist Billie Ray Martin. She did an unreleased project with Frankie Knuckles, which is up now in honor of the Chicago producer. The project is called ‘Heading For The Night’, and especially Knuckles’ Mix 2 hits the spot. Full set here.

Kygo announced two free tracks as a little thank you present for reaching something thousand followers somewhere. The first track is up, and yes it is definitely a Kygo track, though a bit different from his previous work. The Norse producer picks up M83’s ‘Wait’. Say what you want about re-using the same instruments for multiple tracks, Kygo excels where it comes to buildups and release. Take note, every EDM producer ever.

Except maybe Galantis, still a promise for the 2014 summer season. The duo consists out of Bloodshy (of Miike Snow) and Linus Eklöw (Style Of Eye) and their new project Galantis has been releasing tracks for a while now. ‘You’ being one of those tracks. Huge track, vocals are stickier than glue itself. Along comes Seattle producer Instant Party! for the obligated trap version. Normally wouldn’t post this, but the rework is very decent and the original just makes it work.

Also found Paris Carney. She’s an L.A. songstress who’s debuting her first tracks on Soundcloud. She’s already been able to get quite some traction, collecting thousands of plays on het first two track ‘It’s Always The Quiet Ones’ and ‘Astronaut’. Yesterday saw the release of her third song, ‘Run And Hide’. Subtle, playful, must be on replay. Even a rap part in there that itsn’t half bad at all.

Hope there’s going to be a lot more of this too. California label Soul Dojo is sharing ‘That New Step’, a track by fellow Californian Jan $wift. Sort of progressive synthwork over this sloppy midtempo funk beat. Has the same vibe as some of Kaytranada’s and $irOJ’s work. Could be a genre. Should be a genre, maybe.
