Chris Malinchak’s ‘If You Got It’ is good. Arguably, the Joe Hertz remix is even better. Depending on the time and place of course. Joe Hertz throws Malinchak’s samples in a super efficient club package. Thanks to Annie Mac and the faithful Free Music Monday service.

The past few years brought forth a lot of nineties influenced productions. Mostly House/Disco, playing with subtle nineties sounds. Or not so subtle, whatever. Stuff was designed for mid-sized and small room experience. Clubs, intimate settings with less focus on one central point (artist) and more focus on the crowd itself. It even left very decent room for dancing, as opposed to some manic fistpumping affairs, as seen at pretty much any festival’s mainstage. Stuff got pulled of with some class. Even in pop music. ‘Nobody’s Business‘ just nailed it, really worked with the club vs. nineties concept.
Katy Perry though, not so much. Not at all. ‘Walking On Air‘ pretty much took all the subtleties, annihilated them, and tried to clone the original sounds into some sort of overselling stadium experience pop track. Cheap plastic.
No worries though. Them Jeans popped along and fixed the whole thing.

Sinjin Hawke is sharing his remix on ‘First Time’ by Dre Skull, Popcaan and Megan James. One of those tracks that really makes you appreciate good Hip-hop production. Sinjin Hawke definitely was one of the year’s most interesting producers around.
