NEW MUSIC: Rina Sawayama – Alterlife

Surpisingly tasteful pop song with matching video from Rina Sawayama titled ‘Alterlife’ – has to be one of the most creative things to come out this month.

Rina Sawayama is a born in Japan, based in London singer, songwriter and model who has made waves in the past two years with tracks such as ‘Where U Are‘, ‘Tunnel Vision‘ and ‘Cyber Stockholm Syndrome‘. She’s a pop singer who draws inspiration from nineties and early 00’s pop nostalgia – think cyber, Destiny’s Child, sugary sweet pop looks, flip phones, gaming and glitter – together with narratives about topics such as personal identity or loneliness. To get to know Rina Sawayama a bit better, check out the profile i-D did on her below:

‘Alter Life’ takes Rina Sawayama – together with producer Clarence Clarity – away from RnB influences to a more rock-oriented space. Sounds like SEGA, racing games and if anyone remembers: early nineties Roxette.
