NEW MUSIC: AREA21 – Girls

Somewhere behind the scenes Martin Garrix’ new STMPD RCRDS is shaping up, lining up new releases and getting ready for the new single ‘Lions In The Wild’ by the Dutch producer who just entered his twenties. Keep an eye on the STMPD RCRDS social pages this Friday for more info on that release.

The first other name officially confirmed on STMPD RCRDS are AREA21 – pretty much confirmed to be a duo – and last week their second single unexpectedly got published. ‘Girls’ follows the sound of AREA21’s debut single ‘Spaceships’, a trap-based and pop influenced track that is quickly getting a lot of attention everywhere it gets posted.

Lyrically ‘Girls’ touches the same topics as any dance meets pop track in the past years. The whole ‘in the club getting drunk’ thing, nothing you haven’t heard a few times over already. But AREA21’s redeeming qualities definitely come from yet another air-tight music production that sounds like San Holo, Marshmello and/or Slushii did some radio-friendly studio hours together.

For now the bigger question on most digital outlets seems to revolve around the actual producer behind AREA21. It’s the question if Martijn Garritsen himself is part of it. Which just might be the case but it’s yet to be confirmed or disproved, this seems to be a hint though…

Keep in mind STMPD RCRDS is still building a roster. So next to Garrix himself there are going to be some other talented producers involved with the label – which might even be the case for whoever created the AREA21 project. For now both Martin Garrix and AREA21 sound promising and different from the Dutch producer’s past at his old label. Not a bad start for STMPD RCRDS at all, eager to see what else is happening this summer!
