Maliblue
Shiny Disco Club is still a pretty young label from Lyon, France founded in June 2010. (Their first release ‘La Jeunesse Retrouvée’ by Kartell was featured before on this blog.) We came across another good artist from the label, Darius. The track that came up on Darius’ Soundcloud page today is a slow house jam that has Shiny Disco Club written all over it: ‘Maliblue’.

Destiny
Yes it’s a classic by Zero 7, ‘Destiny’. California-based picked it up and made a little Dubstep edit out of it wich makes the track a bit more intense but still great for your lazy Sunday afternoon.

Brittish Little Loud joined Soundcloud recently and has started uploading his remixes which have already been around the blogs. Earlier he posted his Goldfrapp ‘Believer’ remix (You can check his Soundcloud page if you want that one..), and his latest post is his remix of Au Revoir Simone’s ‘Tell Me’.

Next to that we have a pretty fresh Kid Kudi recording. It got up on Official.fm today and appearantly (well, obviously) it’s from a mixtape on youngmoneyhd.com. With the mixtape being theirs and all, go get it there.

The Warmth
Actually this is pretty much like the original but with the heavy kicks/snare and a nice little wobble in the backgroud. (Properly tagged ‘edit’, not remix.) It’s what Styte did with ‘The Warmth’ by Incubus. Nice one.

F.E.A.R.
This recording by Ian Brown is just good, remixing it is probably a nice way to just integrate it into a Dj-set. The Remix was made by High Rankin and Evolve Or Die. The guys know what it is and so they went and made a new genre for this track: Shameless-rape-of-a-classic-step. Don’t matter, it’s a great remix anyway.

Through & Through
This one has been out for a few days now, but we still meant to mention it. A Dublin Aunts remix from Melbourne, Australia. The duo does a pretty good job describing themselves: “We write music. We DJ. Together. It cuts the work in half. Plus we are each other’s biggest fan so there’s always at least one set of hands in the air“.

Sound Of Violence
The Cassius Remix contest has doubled it’s contributors since the last time we checked. Today the competition closed with a little over 200 remixes to be judged. We have been featuring more Cassius remixes but here’s one more by Mattanoll. Good Luck to all remixers!

The Suburbs
This guy actually is from Dublin. It’s Rob Hawk and he remixed ‘The Suburbs’, a track by The Arcade Fire. He did it well too, the original track feels very different from the remix, but both sound very good.

Rockstar (V2)
Wouldn’t you use Pharrell Williams vocals if you had the chance? Zero Loss did it, using the lyrics from N.E.R.D.’s ‘Rockstar’ in their latest Drum’n'Bass creation. Sounds like they come from the same neighbourhood as Noisia, right? Oh wait, they do..

In The Dark

Cassius’ Sound Of Violence Remix Contest is coming to and end at the 1st of September. It doesn’t look as big as Glitch Mob’s or Kavinsky’s latest contests, but there are some good remixes. One of the better ones is the Rooty remix from Warsaw, Poland. (Thanks for the tip Julius!)

I’ll Never Dream / I’m In Love
Apparently Kaskade is not done uploading personal mash-ups yet. This time he took the vocals of his own track ‘I’ll Never Dream’ and put them on Alex Gaudino’s ‘I’m In Love’. Once again, simple yet effective.

Cassius’ Groove
Some producers are really getting the hang of it. Selling music might not be the best way to make cash anymore (As opposite to playing gigs), but giving recordings away is a great way to keep the hungry fans sathisfied and Krafty Kuts knows. He is handing out exclusive re-rubs almost weekly. His latest little present is an edit of Cassius’ ‘1999′.

So Flute
St. Germain’s ‘So Flute’ found it’s way into clubs, mainstream music and even movies since it’s release in 2000. Tracks like these can’t not get remixed. DutchmanMax Enforte found the track, beefed it up with a bigger snare and made a re-edit of the thing. Très fort.

Saturday Love
Luckily there’s more to the genre than just the tech/progressive/electro/Dutch house that is going around all over the place. How about that early-nineties Hed Kandi sound by artists like Grant Nelson or Rasmus Faber. Anno 2010,Random Soul tastes pretty much the same. Champagne, anyone?

Who Is He?
Alice Kuntz provides something similar with a re-edit of a re-edit. (Get it?) The original track was recorded by soul artist Bill Withers. House producer Henrik Schwarz made the first re-edit which ended up in the hand of Kuntz who threw it in the blender again. Result:

Music Is The Answer
In the house scene this is one of the most used acapella’s as it got slapped over many many instrumental tracks since it’s release in 1998. But it’s still nice to see it getting a good remix (again). Extra nice if the remix appears to be a freebie thanks to LA’s Breakdown. With a name like that you’ve probably figured out this is going to be a breakbeat remix.

Funky ‘Ice Tea’ Disco
The Lipton Ice Tea marketing people must have been watching Christopher Walken in Fatboy Slim’s ‘Weapon Of Choice’ music video when they came up with their own commercial version. This time they got Hugh Jackman dancing through the hotel lobby and they blame it all on a small bottle of Ice Tea. The best thing about this commercial must be the music. It’s a 1971 disco record by John Ozila called ‘Funky Boogie’. The sample got catapulted all over the world thanks to that commercial and it only figures that sooner or later, somebody had to go and make a remix. In this case that somebody is Acces Denied, a Breakbeat producer from Moscow.

Hey Brap!
Speaking of inevitable bootlegs, here’s another one. German JSK made a blend of Bart B More’s ‘Brap’ and ‘Hey!’ by Laidback Luke and Diplo. Let’s be honest; it’s not a far-fetched combination but it works like hell.

Echoes
And finally here’s Computer Blue, two guys from Oklahoma City who make kick-ass electronic music. They got their paws on The Rapture’s ‘Echoes’ and made it one hundred percent dancefloor proof. Gotta bite through the long intro first tough..

Energy Bubbling
A few weeks ago Britain’s Grime MC Wiley put up a butt load of his music for free download. The whole collection of over 200 tracks was dubbed ‘The Zip Files’ and can still be found at Grime Forum. Apparently there was some agitation between the Brittish MC and his label and throwing up all his music for free download was a way of saying ‘Screw you, music label‘. True or not, at least the publicity carried the MC’s name to a lot of greedy ears. Brighton’s Robert Luis, A&R manager / Dj, picked up one of the Wiley tracks and did a nice re-edit.

Nude
Sharing music for free is a classic ’stunt’ for bigger artists and if there is one band that knows about it, it should be victimized-by-thousands-of-remixes Radiohead. In 2008, BrittishLeighton Masters entered a remix competition in which the objective was to remix the rockband’s track ‘Nude’. So he did, and recently the Brit has been thoughtful and put his remix up for free download on Soundcloud.

Everybody
The original of this track is called ‘Arthur Lee – Everybody’s Gotta Live’ and was released in 1971. Almost 25 years later, Alister Johnson (/Dj Catalist) released his ‘love remix’ of the track. It’s a strong record so no surprise here: It quickly sold out. For all the people who didn’t get a copy he has now put the track up for free download.

La Jeunesse Retrouvée
Thomas Thierry, also known as Kartell, is releasing his first EP this summer on a fresh new label called Shiny Disco Club. The label will be putting out music with a somewhat ‘French’ disco touch. To get a taste, here’s one of the tracks of Kartell’s new EP. The track is called ‘La Jeunesse Retrouvée’ and they’ve added a wicked video to the track that just catches the right vibe.

Sound Of Violence
Russian Leonid Lipelis just dropped his remix for for the ‘Sound Of Violence Remix Contest’ by Cassius and Burn Studios. The competition just recently started, and producers can enter until the 1st of September. The Lipelis remix is a good one, but it’s not likely to be a winner as other samples have to be cleared on this one.

XXIV
After Succesfully remixing some great artists like Ellie Goulding and Marina & The Diamonds, French producerMonsieur Adi has a new nice track on his hands. ‘XXIV’ popped up on the internet this week, quite a subtle track done solo. M.A.: “It’s a song that I made that does not really fit with my other things so it’s just a B-Side. It won’t get an official release.” Guess that makes this track a really nice freebie:

Congadrum
Washington’s Born I releases an original recording called ‘Congadrum’. It’s educative, certainly dancefloor-proof, and it’s only up for download for a short period of time so make sure you get it in time. If you like what you hear, make sure you also grab B.I.’s Born Identity Mixtape.

Window
PVT (formerly: Pivot) are an Australian band from Sydney who have been flying up and down to London over the last 18 months to record their second album ‘Church With No Magic’. The very synth-influenced album will be released on the 10th of August and the first single is called ‘Window’.

Mighty Mouse
Blend some Hip-hop samples, Bmore kicks and some Dutchhouse-ish kind of synth, and we almost woudn’t have bothered to listen. But glad we did because this good. The track comes from Cheltenham, UK’s Fuzz2k and he fittingly named it ‘Mighty Mouse’.

Regulate (Wick-It Remix)
As an artist it’s hard (if not impossible) not the get a Dubstep remix on one of your recordings lately. But it’s nice if one of those remixes comes out well. Nashville, Tennessee’s Wick-It had a little fun with Warren G & Nate Dogg’s ‘94 classic ‘Regulate’ and this is one of those remixes that turns out to be a good one.

Women!
Just finished watching the ‘Women’-video by Def Leppard. It’s great, if you’re into incredibly overdone eighties rock and huge mullet haircuts. (the comic is pretty rad tough, ‘Def Leppard and the Women of Doom!‘) Ben Samples took the song and somehow figured out how to make something better out of it.

Summer and Starlight does kinda feel like a name for Care Bears, doesn’t it? Forget about that anyway, Justin Vanhaven, part of the band Summer and Starlight put up a great and quite credible track a few days ago. It’s called ‘To The Corner and Back’ and vocals were provided by Samantha Crain. Together they are Neon Wedding.

Vermin Twins
Vermin Twins is a Belgian electropop duo. They look a bit odd, and they do sound the way they look. But it’s actually pretty nice once you’re used to the sound and it definitely sounds authentic. As a freebie they recorded a cover of The Van Jets’ ‘The Future’.

Light Through The Veins
Some history to this track. It’s been a while now since Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida / Death And All His Friends’ album came out. The first track on the album ‘Life In Technicolor’ and the final track ‘The Escapist’ had a certain atmosphere that was later captured by Jon Hopkins in his reconstruction of those tracks. It was called ‘Light Through The Veins’. The reconstruction was picked up by Tom Middleton who made a remix, including some of Coldplay’s vocal samples in the remix. So this is really a remix of a reconstruction of an intro/outro..

Something easy now. A nice instrumental with some nice guitar/piano that is somewhere between Hip-hop and Trip-hop. Track was made by Ewan Hoozami, who already has quite a name in the United Kingdom.

Urban Poets are a collective of artists that are signed to the same label, Majestic Entertainment from Orlando. The group is uploading tracks fast lately, so it’s a good idea to check out their Soundcloud page now and then. Here’s one of their tracks.

One of the biggest advantages of Soundcloud must be that it is quite easy to get your paws on material that issn’t signed yet. So you end up finding great fresh names like Haiku, another Dubstep heavyweight from the UK. He’s getting two tracks mentioned.

It’s terribly hot outside, must be summer. This track somehow fits in with the weather. It’s a strange combination of (German?) chanting females, Dub beats, bongo’s and screaming monkeys. The original is called ‘Gucci Vump – Sha! Shtil!’ and the remixed dub is done by Gonzo Montaña.

Black/Berry
Acoustic guitars are not very common on this blog, but it’s not impossible to find some here. Exhausted Pipes are an Alternative/Folk/Rock band from Stockton, California. In their biography they describe their music: ‘With a more-than-loud blues-based attack and a more modern folk-rock twist than your average garage band, Exhausted Pipes will get your typical smoky, drunken bar crowd dancing. (Also, they’re just cool down-to-Earth kinda guys).’

That’s about it for the ‘nice’ stuff, time to wake up. Nice way to start with that is Drake, a name that is really hard to miss lately. One of Arizona’s finest dubstep producers Sluggo took the track ‘Over’ and transformed it into something to call his own.

Breakbeats from Russia. Stonewash is a producer from the west of Russia who has been active for some years now. A few days ago he started uploading his tracks to Soundcloud, resulting in an entire list of downloadable Breakbeat tools for mayhem.

The Island (Dane O’s Dusk Till Dawn Mix)
More breaks by San Fransisco’s Dane O. He takes on both parts of Pendulum’s ‘The Island’ in a breakbeat edit that should definitely be able to get a crowd on their feet. He also writes for Stumblejuice, a very nice blog about Bass music. Go check him out.

Perfect tool to harrass your neighboors. Arizona is pretty good in creating some of the harder stuff out there. This is a comparison that has already been made way too much for way too many artists before, but this track wouldn’t be out of place in a Justice live set.

Supa! No idea what these guys are saying. If you do, please help us out here. (Comment in the comment section would be great.) But this track is solid. The original was done by Romanian dj MasterA. The remix is Paul Damixie`s work, so he’s the one mostly responsible for the whole vibe of this track..

Vengeance (Funkhameleon Remix)
The bigger part of house music that’s been released in the past year mostly had some strong connections with Techno. (You know, Tech-House..) So it’s nice to hear some guys are coming up with basslines that actually come from a bass guitar. In this case we have to thank Finland’s Funkhameleon. Leko?
A few months back a great track was posted on Soundcloud: KiNK – Leko. The track was part of the Leko / Yako EP and the first release for upcoming Croation label Burek. It was supposedly released somewhere in May but it’s really hard to find, nearly impossible. Yet, it’s an awesome track so if anyone knows where to get it, help us out! The label won’t even let anyone embed the track’s Soundcloud player but you can hear it if you click on this:

Oxytocin
Kid Adrift is a four piece Dubstep/Post-Rock/Pop band (as they entitle it) from Scotland. Their music has already been picked up by larger radio stations such as BBC’s Radio 1, they’re still gaining fame in the UK. The group has a new EP called ‘Oxytocin’ coming out on July 12th and as preview they are handing out a remix by Cyantific & Wilkinson.

What You Know
Two Door Cinema Club have already collected something close to 150 remixes to their track ‘What You Know’ in their Soundcloud remix contest. One remix to stand out from the rest must be the submission by Das Atari Kollektiv.

Spank! Records is hosting a ‘We No Speak Americano‘ remix contest. Right now the 10 best entries have been picked by the Spank! crew and listeners can vote for their favorite remix. One of them is Moonchild, who claims he hassn’t won altough votes are still being collected untill the 11th of July..? Still a nice remix tough.

As mentioned before, there’s a Kavinsky Remix Contest going on over at Soundcloud. What It Means
Not exactly a remix but definitely some nice sampling done here/ Impressive work by Uk’s Hip-Hop/Breaks/Dunstep producer Featurecast. One of his latest tracks is called ‘What It Means’ and he’s sharing it for free, as he does with a lot of his productions. Oh and he’s also touring the globe as a dj.

Claes Rosén is a Swedish music producer from Stockholm. He makes mean Dubstep tracks when he’s in the duoL-Wiz. But he also pops out some techno/synth tracks when he’s producing solo. His latest solo track is called ‘Boogie Breeze’ and here’s a promo:

Magic
This track is just begging for some nice vocals. Instrumental is done by Malefique, a Hip-hop producer from Moscow, Russia. The man cuts up old soul records to make some nice hip-hop instrumentals which he then puts up on Soundcloud for free download.

Freestyle Friday: Rang
E-dubble has been featured before on Jackplug Blog. This man manages to have a new track finished every friday, free to download for anyone who likes it. Last friday’s track is called ‘Rang’, a collab between E-dubble and Kom Plex.

The Well
And finally, here’sBretonLABS, a London based collective of musicians/filmmakers/remixers. They sent us a great new track + video called ‘The Well’, part of their upcoming EP ‘Sharing Notes’. The press release note says it will be released the 5th of July. (And once again, it spends an entire paragraph on explaining how the featured artist sounds. Joga (Willy Whompa Remix)
Some new gems today and again some remix competitions. The first one is hosted by Emrg+N+See, a festival in Portland, Oregon. (16th untilll 19th of July this year.) The contest features parts from Björk’s 1997 album track ‘Joga’. This remix is delivered by Willy Whompa.

99 Problems (again..)
Not the first to remix Jay Z’s ‘99 Problems’, but still a nice dubstep remix is always welcome. Reinald Van Praet is a Belgian Dubstep producer who goes under the alias Reign and he did just that.

LED There Be Light
Last, not least, definitely the shortest and unfortunately not downloadable yet: Cold Blank’s remix of ‘LED There Be Light’ by Rank1. In order to hear the full version, you have to see these guys live. Or ask them nicely on Twitter.

At present it’s Jay Colin, an MC who has performed in Amsterdam, Barcelona and Istanbul just to name a few. “I also travelled to Africa, Tanzania twice and that really changed my view on life. Playing for over fifteen thousand jumping African kids is a memory I’ll never forget.”

When it comes to style or genre and Jurley Colin, ‘omnivore’ is probably a term that fits best. One example: his appearance on Dutch DJ Funkerman’s album ‘House For All’, set to release on May 10th. As House music might not be known for it’s linguistic richness, Colin fills the gap as his vocabulary probably extends those of most MC’s in the field. “I was experimenting with some different styles and house was one of them. So when they asked me to do a track i was all ears. First track we did was ‘Blaze it up’. That really broke the ice for both sides. It’s easy to work with someone when they trust your creativity. And Funkerman is a great producer who isn’t afraid to turn left when everybody turns right. He’s very clear in what he wants to hear in his music.” Here are some of the tracks on the album:

I want to release this year but only if i feel the energy that i am looking for is there. I think every song we make as an artist should be a challenge to beat yourself. I want my music to project that exact feeling so i try to think out of the box every time i make something new.”
